Samuel James “Jim” Gorfine

April 17, 1930 ~ September 04, 2020

Jim Gorfine, 90 of Deland, Florida passed away on Friday, September 4th peacefully at home in the company of his son, Jimmy and his devoted and loving companion of 14 years, Janice Hernly.

Jim was born in South Bend, Indiana then moved to Lansdowne, Pennsylvania where he met the mother of his children and wife of 43 years, Jeanne Strunk Gorfine (deceased).

He served our country in the Navy and the Army, where he achieved a degree in Horology (watch making and the study of time).

Jim moved to Maitland, Florida to help his Dad run his fine jewelry business, which he inherited. He was a jeweler and watchmaker whose customers always became friends.

He loved boating (he built a houseboat and cabin cruiser in his backyard), fishing, the beach, playing poker and billiards, NASCAR, dining out and hanging out with his family.

Jim is survived by his son, James Charles and his wife Gretchen, his daughter Susan Lynn and her husband Roger Mayfield, his granddaughter Michelle (Wayne) Cochran, their children Kaili, Alana and Wayne, his grandson Jonathan (Kelly) Gorfine, their children Parker and Davie, his granddaughter Elizabeth and her fiancé Michael Strange and his angel on earth Janice Hernly and her family.

Jim was a caring and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed life, had a great sense of humor, was a true gentleman and was cherished by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

We all need people who, like Jim, made everyone around him feel special and that he really cared! I know Jim loved all of his family and friends and was so proud of them! I remember he would talk for hours about his memories of his time with Jeanne, his parents, Jimmy and Susan! I was very lucky to have shared a decades long friendship with Jim! My daughter Kelli and I send the family our sympathy and love!
