Ronald “Ron” MacMillan passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was 72.
Ron was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 7, 1948 to Joseph and Eldred MacMillan. The family moved to Maryland in the early 50’s where he grew up and spent most of his life. He worked as a four-color processor printer and journeyman until moving to the beach town of Ormond by the Sea in Florida in 1997. When the printing industry evolved toward digital technologies, Ron started a second career in insurance until retiring. Ron raised his two children, Christen and Ronald as a single parent and taught them both to be resilient, self-sufficient and compassionate. He was extremely generous to his friends and even home schooled the children of several friends after he retired. We will miss his big, booming voice, silly (and sometimes inappropriate) sense of humor very much. To his family and friends, he was generous and loyal. As many friends and family have said, “he could be a pain sometimes, but he would do anything for someone he cared about.”
Ron leaves behind his two children Christen and Ronald, two grandchildren, Mia and Peyton, his beloved dog, Sparky, and many nephews, cousins, and friends. When his best friend, Wayne, died in 2001, he became a surrogate father to his children, Candace and David, remained a close friend to his widow, Pat, and surrogate grandfather to Wayne’s granddaughter, Kait’lyn and grandson, Logan. He is pre-deceased by his mother, Eldred and aunt, Muriel, with both of whom he was particularly close, as well as his older brother, Joseph, older sister Rosemary.
A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date in June. If desired, donations can be made in his name to the American Heart Association or Advent Hospital, Ormond Beach, FL.
