Paul Eric Cates, 68, was welcomed into his heavenly home on July 11, 2020.

He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 24, 1952.

Paul had a talent and passion for music and had a very gifted voice. He had a degree in Music Education and IT Management and worked many years as an Aerospace Engineer. He was active in church music and drama ministries. Singing in a men’s quartet was his favorite. He could create, build and fix most anything. He was a big fan of St. Louis Cardinal baseball He enjoyed scuba diving, bowling, karate, fishing and spending time with his 12 grandchildren.

Paul had a lifelong love for learning and was a fun loving and big hearted man. He was willing to help anyone in need or lend an ear. His love for Jesus and music touched many lives. He was always looking for and fascinated by the ways God was active in his life and the world around him.

Paul had an unconditional love for everyone, His 45 year marriage is an example of that. Paul and Becky were married in Missouri in 1975 and moved to Florida in 1980 where they raised three children, David, Michelle and Seth. They moved to Arizona in 1998 to be near Pauls parents for a while. They then came back home to Florida in 2002.

In 2004 Paul was diagnosed with prostate cancer that later went into bone metastasis.
For over 16 years of treatments, surgeries and many painful situations, Paul never lost his faith. He believed steadfast that God would not fail him and one way or another he would be healed. He often shared that “Gods purpose in everything that happens to us is to draw us closer to Him”.

He fought every day with his wife by his side to get another day to give God praise with every breath he took. Even in his last and hardest days he sang of the goodness of God and his love for Jesus.

Now, in heaven fully healed. Paul is undoubtedly singing at the top of his lungs, praises in adoration of His Heavenly Father and his Savior Jesus.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Sibyl Cates. He is survived by his wife Becky Cates, son David Cates (wife Patricia), grandsons Noah, Josiah and Micah, daughter Michelle Asbury-Cates, grandchildren Lily, Luke, Bethany, Grace, Amelia, Sadie, Isaiah, Selah, son Seth Cates, all from Florida. siblings Lester Alan Cates (Carol) Mo; Barbara Rippy (Lee) Mo; Dennis Cates (Kathy) Az; Dale Cates Az.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to his family to offset expenses, in honor of Paul.

A celebration of life is planned for Aug. 1, 2020 at 10:30am. It will be held at Oasis Church, 85 South Tymber Creek Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 The family welcomes you to share in this celebration.

So very sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. I enjoyed hearing him sing in church, both solo and in a men’s quartet. He is now singing in heaven and praising God. Praying for his family during this time of grief and mourning. He will be missed greatly.
