Doris Elizabeth Ann O’Malley, passed away August 1, 2020, having blessed the world with 90 years of generous love and laughter.
Doris was born January 19, 1930 in Paterson, New Jersey to William and Tillie Mickiewicz. She graduated William Paterson Teachers College and taught for 15 years in Wayne and Franklin Lakes, NJ, and overseas in Japan, Morocco, Germany and Philippines with the United States Air Force.
She was an award-winning gardener, world traveler, skilled baker and loved to crochet and knit. Her hands were always busy and she barely sat still. Her favorite hangout was Coin Castle on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk.
Doris lived life to the fullest. She loved to joke and laugh and if there was music playing Doris would be dancing! But most of all she was the best mom anyone could wish for. She was kind, caring, supportive, encouraging, loving, energetic and so much fun! She was known for creating the best birthday parties; all the neighborhood kids still talk about the fun they had! Doris was always kind and generous and she had the most beautiful loving heart. Her mission in life was to bring joy and laughter to everyone she met and she did just that. She was even known to answer the door in giant sunglasses and funny hats to make her visitors laugh. Doris touched the lives and hearts of so many of us and we are all better off for knowing and loving her.
Doris is survived by – and her spirit lives on in – her daughters Doreen O’Malley, Colleen Celmer and husband Matt Celmer, sister Martha Mennella, and numerous very loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and her granddog, Tillie.
Please join us for a funeral mass Saturday, September 12, 2020, 10 AM at St. Mary’s in Barnegat, NJ. After mass, friends, family and all who loved Doris are welcome to celebrate Doris’ life together at Lefty’s Tavern located at 547 North Main Street in Barnegat, NJ 08005.
Doris believed flowers were to be enjoyed by the living. If you’re thinking of sending flowers, please consider surprising someone else with a beautiful bouquet so that Doris can continue to make people smile.
