Barbara Yelvington Callahan Ames
Barbara, 73 years of age, passed away in her sleep on Thursday, May 7, 2020.
Barbara was born on January 3, 1947, in Daytona Beach, Florida to the late Dwight E. Yelvington and Mary Lawler Brown. She was the younger of 2 children. Barbara was known for her mischievous antics as a child; she loved to dance, including tap, ballet, and jazz.
She graduated from Father Lopez High School, in Daytona Beach, Florida. After high school she entered the workforce, working for Conrad Yelvington Distributors.
Barbara married the late Joseph Michael Callahan in 1964 and had 2 children. They moved from Daytona Beach to Ocala, Florida where she was employed by Monroe Regional Medical Center in accounts payable. In 1984 Barbara and Joe divorced and she relocated back to her hometown where she met the love of her life the late R. K. Ames. They married in 1990 and moved to Brookeville, PA where she enjoyed gardening, fishing and especially square dancing. Her life was not easy and soon found herself back in Florida with her sister Mary Sue Pickett, who adored and cherished her.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Kelly (Kevin) Key of Mount Airy, NC; Grandchildren Cory Parker of Mt. Airy, NC; Adam (Emily) Parker of Hahira, GA; Kristen (Blake) White of Mt. Airy, NC; Evan and Addisen Key of Mt. Airy, NC; Great-grandchildren Lincoln Parker of Hahira, GA; Remi Blake and Jack Callahan White of Mt. Airy, NC. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only son Joseph (Joey) Michael Callahan, Jr.
